This project has been going well, I have successfully shaded the shirt and part of my arm using some of Peter Ruben's hatching techniques, or at least something close to it, varying the thickness of the hatch marks for the folds of the shirt. I also found that the hatch marks simulate the shirt texture well since the shirt already has a slight grid-like texture. The stain that is on my page (from me eating a sandwich) is still visible, unfortunately. This was a blog post by Om Ajith.
