This lunchtime lecture was presented by Noelani Jones and some things I found cool were the connections she tied from her work to nature, the mile-long quilt, and her "jankenpo" piece. With the jankenpo piece, it was cool how Noelani incorporated her Hawaiian upbringing and the stories of how she played jankenpo. Another thing I found cool was that she works in the Richmond area, teaching weaving in VisArts center and also working at the VMFA, and also being a VCU Arts grad. Fiber weaving and weaving in general was something I am was very new to and still am so her explanations about the loom and her technique/process was also intriguing. I wonder how long her weaving takes and I would also like to see if she has any baskets that she's woven. Noelani's work is very unique to her and that is something that influences me too apply to my own work, as much as I try doing that already, watching her lecture inspired me even more.
